Fiction Fridays

This week I have chosen a seasonal book and one that I love and it often brings tears to my eyes!

Two years ago tomorrow, I gave birth to my beautiful daughter and it was the same day as my two sons first Christmas play at school. I was very emotional just before the birth, pregnancy hormones weren't helping along with the pressure of trying to organise Christmas before the birth. Added to that, this was going to be my fourth cesarean section which came with a list of potential complications so all in all, I was an emotional wreck.

I was gutted about missing the play, but after baby ha been born and everyone was settled, daddy rushed back so that he could be there and the Headteacher announced to everyone that R and L had a new baby sister, while my husband sobbed in the front row!

A few days later, the Reception teacher gave me this book and said, I think you will like this. Well, it is a story not so dissimilar to the one I've just told you and my hormones couldn't take it; every time I read it. I cried and wen now two years on it brings tears to my eyes.

It is a lovely festive story and if you haven't already, you should have a read!

"Mae Morgan lived with her mum and dad and her big brother Frankie in the flats on the corner of Trotter Street.  Mae's grandma lived nearby.  Soon there was going to be another person in the family, because Mae's mum was going to have a baby.  It would be born around Christmas time.

  2. What a lovely story to tell your daughter when she's all grown up! I hope she has a lovely birthday.

I remember being at primary school and the head teacher telling us that one of the mums had just had a little girl, she already had four boys and I remember everyone cheering!

  3. One of Shirley Hughes' un-sung best! (she's my mum, so I am not wholly neutral on the subject...). How lovely that it chimes with YOUR story, too.
