The Gallery - Landscapes

It was with great trepidation that I opened this weeks The Gallery prompt from the lovely Tara Cain and phew what a relief it was.  I am still relatively new to The Gallery but already I am completely addicted.  Last week was hilarious and although I posted quite possibly one of THE most embarrassing photos of me in existence, looking around at the other photos was both a relief and entertaining.

So this week's theme is Landscapes.  A photo of a landscape that inspires me.  Living on the edge of the Cotswold's, over time, I have really come to appreciate the loveliness around me.  We live on the edge of a small town and my children go to a village school at the bottom of a hill.  Just driving to school, these are the views we have.

Growing up around here as a child and especially as a teenager, I grew frustrated and resentful and always planned to move away, preferably to somewhere more lively.  Then I went to university in Manchester, which I adored, but it made me appreciate coming home.  Events conspired that this would be home and here I've stayed, but it is a lovely place to bring up children.

The one disadvantage of living in the Midlands is the distance to the sea.  I love the sea and so I have to include a second landscape that inspires me.

Aberavon beach
South Wales has become my 'adoptive' second home.  My husband is Welsh and so we frequently pop down to catch up with family and the lovely thing about that is the coast.  We do go to the Gower, which is breath taking, but more often than not we go to Aberavon beach, a small beach that is about fifteen minutes from my in-law's house.

This post was written in response to a prompt for The Gallery on Tara Cain's brilliant blog Sticky Fingers if you want to see more pop on over and have a look.

  4. They are great views you have on your school drive but I agree, there's something very special about the coast. I think more trips are in order for us once it warms up a little.

  5. The cotswolds is lovely & I would often take a Sunday afternoon drive down the Fosse to Stow on the Wold when I had my first car....but yes probably not much action for a teen!

  6. Same here re the sea. Being a midlander too it's a long way to go. I visit the welsh coast whenever I get the chance, but sadly no family to stay with so it's not as often as I'd like. Love the beach shots.
